Well to be exact I had much more knowledge of PostNuke than Mambo so Mambo may actually be able to do these things but in a different way.

The site I installed needed some of the following:

Registered Users only with a Welcome screen and secured login process.
All new registrations must be approved with no access till done
Mailing Lists
Newsletter
Uploads, Downloads
Customised Registration Process
2nd phase will have online order processing
Document Management

Most importantly the people running this site have ZERO skills...I mean nothing so everything had to be simple point and click.

There were some other requirements but these were the majors.

hmm. I'm thinking you can do most all of that with mambo.. but I've never done it. I DO love the simplicity of layout that you can do with Mambo!

Yeah one thing I don't like about most portals is how much of a pain they are to design themes for. Mambo seems easier.

Mambo could definitely do some of my requirements easily but others not so sure so I opted for PN

I know you can do a 'user only' site with Xoops. I just didn't try it with mambo.

My site - americanhomebrewer.com is xoops. requires a membership to have access.

My only real issue with Xoops is that it doesn't seem to be very active of late. I'd hate to select a doomed portal system is all. It isn't bad though.

As for home brew....I'm a brewer myself. Got about 400 stubbies of various drinks in the garage. that reminds me I'm starting to run low

At this moment I have 4 on tap (5 gal draft kegs)
Plus,
1 - octoberfest (lagering since may)
2 - American Pale Ale in secondary
1 - american blonde ale in secondary
1 - 2.5 gal raspberry wheat in secondary (gotta bottle that soon...)
2 - "anchor steam" type in primary.

Gotta brew!

Yeah I've got about 60 bottles of Hard Cider, 60 Bottles of Alcoholic Ginger beer. 100 Of dark stout, some Bavarian Lager and a heap of Coopers Lager. I really like the Pale Ale but I've not been able to get the right taste yet =(

As for joining your site, mightn't be a bad idea but I ain't a yank

Cheers,

Brad
