PostNuke & mySQL
I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on this for me. I've installed Post Nuke onto a clients site. It was customised and working great for 2 months.
Over the weekend I started getting an error. "[Sun Aug 15 19:30:52 2004] [error] PHP Fatal error: Cannot redeclare head() (previously declared in /home/website/public_html/header.php:47) in /home/website/public_html/header.php on line 44" When a User logs in (including the admin) They get basically the theme layout and thats it. I tried a number of methods suggested at the Post Nuke forums to no avail. Finally albeit reluctantly I was left with the only option of re-installing. this I did to a fresh new database. The install worked fine as it should and voila displaying correctly. Okay now upload the SQL backup. Restore works perfectly and site Login is back to how it should be. Login...................back to square one. Is it safe to assume theres something weird going on with sql and if so how do I fix it? =( One unhappy camper. Brad |

I'd post a message to Support - of course, include your server name.
none of us can help because we can't see or try what you're experiencing without the URL. But it could be a problem with MySql or the size of the database you restored. John

Yeah, the Post Nuke forums have been useless. Doing the old search routine has found that this is a very common problem and no one has any answers.
I'm getting extremely disillusioned with Post Nuke =( I'm hoping Surpass may have a backup from last week =( Cheers, Brad |

I have used PHPnuke, Xoops, and MAMBO. there are some things I like about nuke, but not many. Mambo can be templated completely with CSS! John :miam2: edit: Holy carp! This is my 2100 post!

Oh yeah I love Mambo and use it as well. It's just that my client had some very specific requirements that PostNuke could accommodate. I'm sure Mambo could too but it would have required far more customisations. PostNuke already had everything I needed combined with my working knowledge.

Let me fill you in on something - Postnuke sucks. All the awesome Postnuke devs have left...
Postnuke claims to "handle high volume content with ease". Yeah right...my postnuke was beating the Fresh server repetedly (so I converted to vBulletin!). Anyhow, my favorite postnuke developer, MagicX, has created his own Portal system called Fenix. Check it out here: www.samstech.net Also, check out www.opensourcecms.com -dndog

[at][at][at][at] I've been busy but I thought I'd better check back in. Unfortunately for some bizarre reason even the backup from 4 weeks previous had the bug yet it didn't have for the following 4 weeks!!!
At any rate I had to suffer a full re-install and I was not happy. Not surpass's fault as they went beyond what they could have to help. The issue I had is common but there seems to be many different theories on what causes it. The most common is a Theme issue but the exact nature again is not known. Thanks for the help anyway. I've checked out opensoursecms a few times and I've actually trialled phpnuke, postnuke, mambo, xoops and a couple of others. But ultimately for the specifics required PostNuke won hands down. I actually prefer Mambo particularly for looks but it still has a long way to go for some functionality. I'll be sure to check out Fenix too. Cheers, Brad |

Brad -
what functionality did nuke have that you can't do in Mambo?
