Angry My SQL databases are gone!

I went to update in my Wordpress and noticed an error:

Quote:
Error establishing a database connection! This probably means that the connection information in youn wp-config.php file is incorrect. Double check it and try again.
So then I went to my site and got this:

Quote:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1" ?>
- <div>
- <p>
<strong>Error establishing a database connection!</strong>
This probably means that the connection information in youn
<code>wp-config.php</code>
file is incorrect. Double check it and try again.
</p>
- <ul>
<li>Are you sure you have the correct user/password?</li>
<li>Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?</li>
<li>Are you sure that the database server is running?</li>
</ul>
- <p>
<a href="http://wordpress.org/support/">WordPress Support Forums</a>
</p>
</div>
So then I realized something was really up so I went to my cpanel and it says I have 0 mySQL databases and I get this error:

Quote:
DBI connect('mysql:localhost','root',...) failed: Too many connections at /usr/local/cpanel/Cpanel/Mysql.pm line 42 ERROR 1040: Too many connections ERROR 1040: Too many connections ERROR 1040: Too many connections /usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Too many connections' ERROR 1040: Too many connections ERROR 1040: Too many connections ERROR 1040: Too many connections ERROR 1040: Too many connections /usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Too many connections' ERROR 1040: Too many connections ERROR 1040: Too many connections
I have not messed with my database or anything, what is going on? Please don't tell me I lost everything!!

It would be really strange if they were gone. More likely it's just not connecting - for whatever reason.

It says on my left side menu that I have 0 databases/unlimited and it shows no databases on my mySQL page, just the error. I will email support.

Too many connections? If it's persistant, support needs to know about that. All the other sites on that server that use MySQL will have the same problem.

And it's showing 0 databases because it can't connect to the server and see how many databases you have.

Yeah it seems to be fine now. I emailed support and never heard anything back... very odd.

Then, it was probably because some MySQL-extensive site was hogging the server.

Hi thefictionalme

That error you got doesn't mean the databases were ever in fact gone.

Either
1) The MySQL server got wedged and needed a restart or was being restarted
2) There really were too many open MySQL connections on that particular server at that instant.

In any case - you did the right thing and emailed support.
