A little help...
Some of you may have already seen this site:
http://mcdonoughfineart.com Right now, each time a person selects BUY it just generates a form, and that form is emailed. I want to figure out how to let a person add multiple items to a cart, then do the form, and then email it. so I want to build a basic cart. Nothing too complicated because orders are all hand processed - we just want the customer to be able to add 10 prints or something if he so desires. So, I need session cookies, I guess... and whatelse?? John

if you feel like 'cheating' you could use AgoraCart (in cPanel). Not using session cookies, you could simply create a text file with the filename of, say, their IP and the microtime() timestamp, that logs to it everytime they add something to their cart. Then when they reach to final checkout, they see a list of everything they've added...

to use agora cart would involve a complete redesign of the site... not up for that, and he can't afford to pay me to do it anyway.
I'm figureing that I just need to add cookies and figure out how to store 'cart' information.

If you only want to have 10 items max you could make a different cookie for each item, or have one cookie store each item and separate them with commas or something. You can make the code process the extra imformation with (probably) minimal effort.
Just make sure that the user verifies their cart before ordering, since there may be users that have altered the way session cookies are stored (ie: they may not be deleted). You could also add a link that wipes the information from that cookie. |

Yep. Though depending on how much information you store you may be able to get away with one cookie, by separating info with a character then explode()ing it once you're viewing the cart or processing the form.
They're not really secure, but since you're not tracking Credit Card number or anything I'd say it's OK. |
