Switching a server (phpBB)

I've forum at my friends host and now I want to transfer it to on my own server. It is over 40 MB big, so I just can't download the backup on the new server.

What should I do?

If your friend's host uses cPanel email support and they'll move it over for you. Files, database and all.

it's a multi step process, but you can go into phpmyadmin and 'optimize' the database, then zip it and see how big it is.... then transfer it.

Can your friend run a mysqldump on the database?

Then you could FTP the file it up to your home directory or give support access to where you put the SQL file - email support and they will import.
