Ok I'll bite. How do I limit the file types on one of these shared hosts?

I thought it was possible with a .htaccess file, but at the moment I'm having a hard time finding it through google. I did it a while back on my home machine, but have since dumped it and don't have it any more. Someone else may know what the heck I'm talking about though and be able to fill in the massive blank I left open lol
