IPB and PHPsuexec
PHPsuexec appears to cause an issue with the outgoing mail function of IPB - specifically the PHP Mail function built into IPB. Swapping PHP Mail to STMP might work as a workaround, or finding the code to correct permissions...not sure though...
Figured I'd atleast make other IPB users aware of an issue I had. |

Which version of IPB are you using? I've not had any issues with mail not working.

What exactly is the 'issue' ? Are you just unable to send out emails ?
I'm using 2.1.5 + PHPsuexec + PHP mail and apart from now recieving "Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender" messages in my Inbox for expired email addresses, everything seems to run just fine. |

The issue was a section of my member base wasn't getting e-mails from the board - like validation e-mails, messages notifying of new private messges, or messages sent using the boards e-mail system. One member had signed up for subscriptions to certain topics and those were bouncing as well.
All of the them had valid e-mail addresses - when I first looked them over I thought it was just AOL, but then I noticed optonline, prodigy, snet, and a host of others. (and yes, I still have about 40 of these e-mails sitting in my mailbox) PHPsuexec wasn't something I'd wanted on my server to begin with, so its now disabled and my board is now running the way it's supposed to again. But...*shrugs* That's just me. That's not necessarily the solution for everyone. |

I installed phpsuexec on my server and installed many common programs that a lot of people use, and everything is working fine.
It is never a good idea to have 777 directories on a shared server, so phpsuexec prevents that- which is why it's so important.

Hey Kayla, if you have a chance, try installing Cubecart. Make a fake product, and try to update it (without changing anything, just go to edit and update the product without changes to it). I'm trying to figure out if it's phpsuexec that is causing it to give this weird "Failed to Update Categories" error. I need to get someone without phpsuexec to test that as well. Atleast if you try it and it does it, I'll know it's not just my server.
