questions about upgrade..

I need to upgrade my server from a pentium 4 to a dual Xeon..

when you upgrade, is there any downtime?
if there is, how much?

and also, i had a really bussy Php forum in my server, an my question is, what is more important in a forum, the ram of the server? or the processor?

well, i hope that you can help me.., sorry for the spanglish..

There would be downtime when they change the hardware..
How much i have no idea
Not very much i would guess..

And. RAM is most important when it comes to MySQL-queries. (Which your forum creates loads of)
But CPU is a important thing to. But. It won't do you any good with great proccessor without enough RAM.
So be sure to have enough RAM on your box.

2 Xeons and 2 Gigs will handle 3,000 people at once on your forums.

I was at a very active forum 2 years ago and the specs of that server we were on was 2 Xeon and 2 gigs. Most users online was 3019.

But since that was awhile ago. I would say that today you can handle 1100 at once
