Game Servers

If i wish to offer online gaming such as counter strike/ unreal tournement and so on would I have to go dedicatede or could i use the ressellers account??

If I had to go dedicated how difficult is it to set up a game server???

hopefully Tracer Round will see this. i believe he runs a game server. i would think that a dedicated would be the way to go so your game runs as fast as it possibly can without being hindered by other users sharing your CPU and memory...

I wouldn't even attempt this on a shared enviroment. It will end up annoying all the other users on the server.

Can you even run programs on a shared environment? Maybe through Telnet, I don't know.

But if you are looking to run a game server, look for a dedicated to do so.

I guess it would all depend on the game. Eh, I duno. I'm not up on these online games and things.

game servers = dedicated unless one wants the account = suspended.


Stuart - several Sumunity members run gameservers. I moved this thread from Reseller to Dedicated so it stands out more to those in the know.

Hey sorry I have been out of town for a week. You can only run the type of gameservers you mentioned on dedi for many reasons, but the first would be bacause you have to have root access to set it up in the begining. And because what the Surpass TOS says.
