Question Cpu Hog ... Why ...

Hi guys,

I got this emal from my server:
IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email.
This is cPanel stats runner on blackpearl.peconi.com!
While processing the log files for user genesis, the cpu has been maxed out for more then a 6 hour period. The current load/uptime line on the server at the time of this email is
21:44:06 up 34 days, 16:41, 0 users, load average: 1.13, 1.18, 1.20
You should check the server to see why the load is so high and take steps to lower the load. If you want stats to continue to run even with a high load; Edit /var/cpanel/cpanel.config and change extracpus to a number larger then 0 (run /usr/local/cpanel/startup afterwards to pickup the changes).
When I checked the CPU usage I got info that this program:
"/usr/bin/perl /scripts/convertemails"
is really killing the server. It seems it gets stuck for hours and it has 99% of CPU usage!

Anyone knows what should I do?

Petar

Well cPanel is running this script and I guess if it is set by cPanel it must be needed for something. It is not like I am running it manually and also I rather know more about it before I kill it...

ask support to recompile/reconfigure the script. It probably just gets stuck in and endless loop somewhere.

I don't know if it's common, but I'm having this problem as well. I'm going to be getting in touch with support momentarily to find out what can be done to fix it.

There is a bug in some perl versions. The patch is already included in the newest release of cPanel. You may need to:

killall convertemails
rm -f /scripts/convertemails
/scripts/upcp

More info can be found on cPanel forums.
