Assignign IP's W2K3
Yeah I was just wondering if it was possible to assign ip's to logins created in windows 2003. My friend just bought a server from you guys but we can't figure it out. Can we use all of our ips? Thanks.

Are you running W2K3 on the server that you got from Surpass? If so, then I'm sure there's a way to use the IP addresses, assuming there is a need for them. If you got a Linux server from them, and you have the W2K3 server at your house, then I'm afraid not. If you can provide some more details, someone here can give you a more definite answer. ![]()

We bought a dedicated server with Windows 2003 installed. What I am saying is my friend bought a bundle of extra ips. Can we assign those ips to logins we create to each of the users we allow to sign in?

Wow. Didn't realize we had Windows in the datacenter now.
My initial response would be no (ips are usually tied to network adapters, and then services are configured to use them, regardless of the user), but I'm sure someone here will have a more definitive answer for you. John

All the ips should have been bounded to your server already. Meaning they all ping and route to your server. As far as assigning them to a specific login it will depend on the software you program. As for as creating logins for people to use the server for remote desktop any of the ips should work.

Well we want to use the multiple ip's to connect software to the internet. We were hoping to have different ip's for each of the logins or even just each software program. I am almost positive all the ip's are binded but still, how do I use them with software? And is it still possible to give an IP to a login? Anyone know?
Edit: I just read your post again Emmanuel, and if I was to login to the server on another IP would the software I connect to the internet use that IP? Thanks. Last edited by JoeRodge; August 20th, 2005 at 4:36 PM. |
