Questions before purchasing a server

I want to just go ahead and purchase a server, but I have a few questions that need clarification before I do so.

First, I don't have much experience (if any at all) running a server. How would this differ from the reseller package I have now? From what I understand, I will be able to access it via the internet. Would I only have access to my cPanel/WHM (that's what's I plan on buying) or would I have access to my entire computer (ie, desktop and all)?

Also, what would be the suggested OS for somebody of my [in]experience level? I know that many of the OS's suggested are linux/unix based, but I've never had any sort of experience with them before.

Lastly, when going to actually purchase the server on step three (overview of products and services) there's a required question, "who was your salesperson?" how would I answer that if I haven't spoken with anybody yet?

I know it's a lot, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Thanks!

You'll have access to SSH and cpanel if you get it.

I recommend CentOS.

Not sure about that one.

number three is not required. You can say 'none' for who was your salesman.

Surpass still supports you when you have a dedicated server, it's just that YOU have root access too.

If you want the server to be just like your reseller package, let them know that. You will have more options in your WHM - like the ability to monitor all accounts on the server / cpu useage, and the ability to create resellers!.
