Insight on problems

What might have caused my server to stop responding?

I noticed on the DECC page that around Thanksgiving weekend one of my servers had 0 data transfer for what it looks like was a couple hours based on the blank space in the graph. That problem had resolved itself, however one of my other servers went down 4 PM EST yesterday and support said the following.
Quote:
Your server was not responding so I sent in to make sure it gets rebooted. If it is not up in 15 minutes or so let us know.
The server was restarted a little while ago and service is back to normal.

Anyway I was looking for insight onto what might be the reason for this to have occured? The server's been running fine since it was added to my account in the middle of November.
