Configuring a VPS

I have always been on a shared server and have never really had to configure anything beyond nameservers and such.

How difficult will it be for someone like me to setup and configure a VPS? What all is involved?

Lastly, what is meant by 100% managed in terms of the VPS environment?

Thanks.

Kayla and Emmanuel will know this for sure, but I'm pretty sure that VPS, like dedicated server, is (close to) 100% managed.

Thanks very much for your reply removed.

I'm looking forward to getting more info as I really like the concept behind VPS hosting.

Thanks again.

No problem. Hopefully I'll get a chance to try one, too.

Greetings,

1. You don't really have to configure anything in the VPS. We configure it and install cpanel and all. Then we give you the ip and such. The biggest benefit
is another user on the server can't make your site go down and you have 100% root access to install anything you want.

2. 100% managed means we provide support to you like a shared hosting plan or reseller plan.

Some examples are helping you mail issues, dns issues, ftp issues anything which comes pre installed with the server and cpanel itself. We will however not provide support for 3rd party applications. For isntallations of anything which isn't preinstalled please file a ticket. Generally if the installation will take more then 30 minutes we will have to charge.

Anything and everything? I don't mean to ruffle feathers here, but I read from someone else that it cost them $150 to have some packages installed to their managed dedicated server. Is that accurate or are they blowing smoke up my fanny?

Knowing some people, probably smoke, dear.

anything that doesn't take more then 30 minutes. People do tend to abuse and tell us to install programs which take hours. For that we will charge.

However request like those are not common.

"help" isn't the same as having packages installed either.

How do I do this, how do I do that is helping. Asking us to install this and that is more of a request.

" my email don't work and I get this error from exim can you help me fix it?"

that is managed support yes we will help you fix.
