VPS Performance

Hi everyone.

Just a quick question to anyone who is on VPS. How does the performance compare to a reseller account (or shared server account).

I'm currently on Pass11 as a reseller and to be honest I am not very confident with that server's performance. Its alright to host my own domains but I would not be comfortable reselling any services unfortunately

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as I am seriously considering trying a VPS for my next venture.

Thank you all and my thanks in advance.

I'd say much better, cause you get your own reserved resources, unlike the shared/reseller/webdev/OC servers, which is what determines the performance. I do not have one (yet) but have heard great things about the service from other Surpass Clients.

Ask support to check your server. It shouldn't be that slow ...

Many thanks to all for taking the time to answer my query. VPS does sound like the way to go and I will seriously consider this in the next few days.

Thanks again.

McNaz.

OK. Where do I start?

I've been on a VPS for the last two weeks (many thanks for the coupon Emmanuel) and I must say that I am very impressed.

During the last two weeks I've only been through two server reboots and the one was due to a SSHD spam attack that caused the server to reboot. Thanks to support's tutorial on how to use iptables (and banning half of China and Cuba) everything is running well.

Speed wise the server is very impressive. Very quick and sharp responses. The major thing for me was the server downtime which I have not had in the last two weeks.

Support migrated all my accounts from Pass11 (except modsdxd - must chase up support ) smoothly and quickly.

Regrets? None. I am beginning to have more confidence now with reselling services based on my VPS as opposed to being on Pass11.

Did a quick search in support on iptable and firewall and did not see anything - could you post a link to the tutorial

Thanks,

John

The tutorial was email to me by Praveen:

Quote:
**********************************
iptables -I INPUT -s 202.130.82.234 DROP
**********************************
After that you have to save the changes to the iptables using the command :
**************
rootvps [~]# service iptables save
**************

The ipranges can be blocked in similar manner:
************************
iptables -I INPUT -s 202.130.82.0/24 -j DROP --> will block all IPs 202.130.82.0 to 202.130.82.255 .************************
