WHM Feature Curiosity

So it finally dawned on me the usefulness of text messaging my fone via e-mail. Then I recalled that WHM has a setting where you can add your pager address where you'll be notified for things.

What exactly will I be notified of? Has anyone used this feature in WHM?

Main >> Server Setup >> Contact Manager
If the pager is set to 1, then all events set to 1 in the Alert Priority Assignment area will generate a page.

I wondered about that. If the server goes down, how is it supposed to page you?

It's for individual events, ie. adding accounts and downed services etc.

If the server goes down completely, you won't receive any notification until it comes up.

Thanks for the Contact Manager link

I had began to think about how I could utilize my cell phone text messaging in scripts, then I thought about the WHM feature, no point in coding something that's already set up to do what ya want.

lol David, that's a good point. I suppose that's when you need to have a script on another machine set up to ping the server and e-mail you when the ping doesn't get any results.

Emailing your phone

I know I can email my phone directly by sending an email to :
(MYPHONENUMBER)mobile.mycingular.com
I'm sure you can find this info for your provider.
You can script thios address into anything that's able to send email.
I use this address for my email in WebCalendar (Fantstico script) and it sends me reminders.
Be careful about the size of mailed messages!

I believe so, but I think you have to enable it first. When I had verizon, they used vtext.com for text messaging
