A new Linux admin joins us...

Welcome aboard.

Don't feel like you've paid your dues by locking yourself out of the machine. There's far worse to come. You still haven't had an rm -r, chown -r, or chmod -r experience yet (notice the -r in all of the examples. Beware of the -r, I'm telling you).

Trust me, there's rough waters ahead. But it's worth it.

I hope you've put in a support ticket. They should be able to login from the console and get you back up. Worst case, they can boot off of a cd and undo the damage. Embarrassing, perhaps. Permanent, no.

John

Failure is not an option. It comes standard with all Microsoft products.

I did the same thing with that guide actually. I didn't add the user correctly it turned out. Contact support. They have to get an inhouse person to fix it, because if you removed access from the root user, no one will be able to get in unless they have direct access to the machine.

Have you tried "rm -rf * from /?

Works really well until it hits the rm command.
