VPS...I wonder

How difficult would it be to take an existing dedicated server and splitting it in half like with the VPS software? Like turning one server, into two basically. It's a thought that has been rolling around in my head like a drunk pigeon for the past few months.

It's not difficult. It requires a new kernel and possibly a new OS, if your not already running something compatable. Of course, you'd need either Virtuozzo (not cheap) or FreeVPS (SSH required).

You would just move some clients to one VPS and the rest to the other.

Easy.

Ah. Wonderful answer, despite the fact I only understand everything prior to the word "not".

But yeah, it was just one of those things that popped in my head.

Easy is not in my linux vocabulary. I reset my fedora core machine once and crashed the file system in the process.

Alls you do is move people. Moving is easy.

Now if you're running other crap on your server - Shoutcast servers, game servers, etc. - that's another story.

But cPanel stuff? Easy as pie, yo.
