How to Upload a FULL Backup usign WHM?

Hello,

I have a full backup of my website created in Cpanel however I cannot upload it in Cpanel. It states my Admin would have to do this in WHM. I have root access to WHM and in there it says:

"This feature will restore full backups, cpanel backups and cpanel move files in the format of: cpmove-user.tar.gz, user.tar.gz, backup-date_time_user.tar.gz

The files must be in one of these directories on the server: /home,/usr/home,/web,/home2,/home3,/root,/usr

You must upload the file to one of the above locations before using this feature. "

The problem is, I cannot access the root server to upload this file into /home etc. How can I upload a file directly into my root server? I tried using Smart ftp.

1) How do I access the root server to upload this file?
2) Is there any way I can upload this file to the cpanel account and unzip it from there?

Upload the file to your web account using any ftp client. Then SSH to your server and copy the file to the /home directory. From there, WHM can restore it. If you need an ssh client, try putty.

The accounts are usually in the /home or /home2 directory. Assuming you loaded it to your root folder of your cPanel account it would be /home/username/filename

To copy it to the /home directory:
Shell#
Quote:
cp /home/username/filename /home

FW,

Thank you for your help. However it's still not working. I have moved the file into my home directory. Then I went back to the WHM panel to restore a full backup and it's not finding the file. The file is stored in home/backup_filename.gz . Any clue what I'm doing wrong? In the restore full backup screen it asks "Enter the username for the account you wish to restore"
Thanks

Are you using WHM while you are logged in as "root" or as shell access of the account.

You will need to be logged in as root -- the server administrator.

If you have a file in the format of:

backup-2.21.2006_22-04-42_sitename.tar.gz

-- [the numbers represent the backup date and time]

in your /home or /root directory, and go to Restore a full backup in WHM, logged in as root, you should see at the bottom of that page a list of all available tar.gz files that are available for restore, including the one you have uploaded to your /home directory.

Then at the top where it asks for the account you wish to restore:
type the account name in the box, ie. sitename in the example above.

If the file is not in the list of available files to restore, either it is not in the /home folder or there is a problem you need to ask support about. You might copy it to the /root folder as WHM will find it there as well.
