Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ram and processor are technically shared. I believe these servers have about 8 gigs of ram. If each user gets 512 MB, of RAM guaranteed, that means only 16 users can be placed on the server. Its burstable because not everyone is using there 512 MB of ram. So instead of just limiting you there, you have the chance to use more, however you're really not entitled to use all 2 gb of it for a prolonged time, because that's not what you're paying for. You're paying for 512 MB of RAM.

It really doesnt matter what you are "burstable" to, as quite frankly its irrelevant. You are allocated 512 MB for regular use. If say one day you need to send out a mailing list and you need 1-2GB of memory for the task, then you are capable of using said resources. However that 1-2GB is not meant to be used every day.

The problem is that you have apparently been using much more. You may have only 500 visitors a day however if youve got 20-30 SQL connections per page, you may have issues. I dont know anything about XOOPS, but it or a "hack" you have installed may be causing the issues. or simply someone is abusing it in someway, increasing your resource usage.

Oh and the helpdesk article you posted simply says that they will monitor resource usage, doesnt say anything about informing you. http://www.surpasshosting.com/content/rap.php

btw when a dedicated server uses more memory than it has... it crashes.

Im really not intersted anymore, my site doesnt use that much memory, I asked for proof and they never gave me proof so doesnt that say something?

A VPS should be able to handle my site no problems there is a much busier michael jackson site which uses a cms and forum as i do on php/sql they are on VPS with another host and thier site has no issues, so either surpass VPS is rubbish or there is anotehr cause.

Thankyou

Well we got off on a rant about the burst but that is due to what was said. The issue really is why this happened.

It could have been by some mass connections and all but don't forget it also could have been a exploit/hack attempt issue too.

Accounts are not just suspended due to you doing something wrong it is also done for server safety. Even if you have a dedicated this could happen.

The true source if the issue needs to be discovered. So we all can learn from it.

They probably don't have a record of your memory usage. I was experiencing some high memory/cpu usage at one point and I asked if they could check it out and they told me they didn't find anything at the moment. They have to be looking at it, at that moment for them to see what is going on.

Also, they don't need to provide proof if they don't want to. Its probably somewhere in their TOS that you signed that right over that they can suspend your account for whatever reason they seem appropriate.

Just trying to shed some light.

Surpass is a sister company of hostdime however you can not call hostdime and get support for surpass because there is two totally different departments. So calling hostdime will not help.

Back to the ram burst I think your misunderstanding something. You don't pay for 2GB ram, you pay for 512MB ram and can
burst up to 2GB ram, you were sustainting 1GB ram when you where suspended thus sustain is abuse versus
burst where you can spike up to it. I think your lack of knowledge is playing a big role on your thinking
that we are cheating you. We have no reason to do this. We just want a good running vps for and us.
