Point 1. I do not work for surpass... I'm just a customer, and I experience frustrations just like you do.

Point 2. You indicate in your initial post
Quote:
your VPS consumed almost 1GB of memory constantly
That's not bursting. Bursting would be some number between zero and (in my estimation) 10%-20% of the time... If there are 5 users on the VPS box, then 20% would be 'fair share'...

Point 3. Your rants are fine, but remember, this is a user forum. The fact that Eman and Kayla and others take the time to read messages here should show you that they are concerned.

Point 4. VPS is new for surpass - so if there are some configuration tweeks that they need to do, perhaps... but screaming isnt' gonna make that egg hatch any quicker.

Point 5. If you buy a plan that allows 512 consistant use of ram, and burst to 1gb or 2gb or even 99gb... if you consistantly are OVER the 512mb limit, you're not 'within the scope of the plan'.

Point 6. I find it hard to believe that a site with Xoops and 500 uniques per day is using over 512mb constantly... perhaps you have something else on your site that is consuming that ram / resources?

No more points...

Good night, and good dreams.

Very good points Bigjohn, but are you sure about #4

I agree with that number of visitor and Xoops that is odd. I wonder now if this is not another example of the mystery resource hog I have caught twice on VPS5?

For I have yet to figure out what was using those resources. And I'm told the mailman activity I querie about is normal and not doing it.

And VPS being new to Surpass who knows what gremlins are hiding in there yet to found and be tweaked out.

Do you have scheduled backups? If so, at what times? Look at your cron job list - because if you and everyone else are using the default backup schedule, it's possible that this 'mystery' is being caused by DISK lag - everyone trying to access that one thing at the same time for backups...

No scheduled backups. So far only do a forum backup of the DB monthly since they are so slow in activity and any time I make a major chage which my last was in May.
Like I have said before my forums should not warrant seeing 10% of what i see and a backup should not even show that or close even when done.

I know folks with a VPS running 10 times more than what I have or even much bigger that what the OP here has described and sees nothing close to this resource use. And what I see is so sporadic and often when found vanishes in less than 5 minutes.

last night I did catch YUM busy and hogging some resources though. But I assume that is normal. Being a Linux updater tool?

In response to eamannuel:

I tseems on this occasion phoning hostdime did actually help me, as it seems you where just ignoring me, which even they admitted you where proabably doing and thats your same company...

ABout the ram burst, if you read what Eman wrote(by the way are you and Eman one in the same?) he said I can burst to 1GB but I pay for 2GB burst? its perhaps an error in the way he has worded it but to me it sounded like i was being conned, you understand?

Thirdly, as i have just explained to Eman not everyone who operates a website has a degree in computer science or is an apache expert sometimes when support explains things its just far too technical, if thats a problem for you then you should have a notice saying dont host here unless you understand technical stuff. Most of your customers are probably like me just normal guys and gals who arent technichal but know enough to set up a decent website, without customers like us there wouldnt be a surpass hosting, infact there wouldnt be the amount of hosting companys there is now.

I apologise for my lack of knowledge as Eman liked to tell me it was my lack of knowledge that seemed to be the problem, well hold on I will go and pay thousands of dollars and put myself through a computer science degree would that make you happier?

Perhaps its the fact that I just compalined too much you dont like, well its my god given right as a pying customer to complain as much as I want its in the constitution(i think).

Anyway, aprt from the small problem I had the past 2 days I still think surpass is great and yes I would reccomend it and YES I still want to host with surpass and I hope I am hosting with surpass for along time, after pissing me off so much yesterday doesnt that say something?

Regards,

Martin

no clue what could be going on there unless support is troubleshooting and has the VPS down?

He might have been mistaken about the 1GB of memory. As the highest amount of RAM you can receive is 512 MB and that's both for the VPS 2 and 3 plans. Maybe there is an error on the front page? If Kayla or Eman could clarify this, that would be sweet.
