Question what cpu u recomend for these stats?

seems my cpu overloaded tonight running at an average of 15.9 during a 20min busy period, i got the lowest celeron package but obviously that cant handle it

hers my stats

Forum

Members: 18,228

Average 1000 posts a week, 500 new members a week

max of 1000 online at any given time.

Currently Active Users: 622 (410 members and 212 guests)

what cpu would you recomend for those stats?

Odd the celeron should have no problem with that very weird. But if you do want a powerhouse the Dual Opteron will kick it out with no problem. They rock!

Its strange that a celeron can handle it.

i have some problems with my celeron with about 50 onlines.

Don't discount a celeron however, a previous admin job I had we ran over 200 individual accounts on a celeron. Celeron processors work fine for mainly static pages with some dynamic content.

However for a busy forum like that you definetely want more. I would go with a package that offers slightly more Memory as well as CPU power.

Even a Pentium 4 will handle processing a bit better than that Celeron is doing with that much dynamic content.

So... have you looked at the TIME when this load hits? Are you running your backups at that time? What forum software are you using? How is the site coded? All these things play into ways to optimize your site....

But as SKIP indicated, if you just want to throw money at the problem, get an OPTERON server...

its vbulletin forum, sites fully php coded with bit of flash

i went for p4 and 2gb ram upgrade after asking on another big server forum they said it should handle it ok

Thanks for all the replies here also you all helped towards getting my site stable again
