Back when you were on a shared server, it was probably a dual xeon or opteron with I think 2GB of RAM. If none of the other sites on the server were doing much at the time, it would have easily handled it.

Dew is correct. On a shared server your site's CPU/mem usage is free to burst. If the server was a dual Opteron, your site was smoking.
