BIG problems.. not enough help from support

(last week) Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and again today, my server has gone totally dead and required a reboot during my busy hours (busy meaning about 600 uniques per hour, maybe 3,000PV's/hr which does not seem enough to kill a server) . My server is a (new) P4 2.4Ghz w/1GB RAM .. It has only one domain/site which is a CMS (Drupal) ..

After the first crash support said it was due to a corrupt MySQL table. The 2nd and third crashes I got no reason for, today's crash was blamed on "too many http connections".. I know that it is not support's job to admin my server, but i am stuck and clueless!

Can someone tell me how much support/info i should expect?.. what steps I can take to troubleshoot these server crashes?? Or should support be doing this troubleshooting for me?? Or do i need to hire a server Admin?

Any help, guidance, or moral support is appreciated.

You'll get raw data from support - they don't support specific CMS like drupal.
You can ask them to tweek your Apache configurations, or, because it IS your dedicated, you can tweek them yourself.

In fact there are a ton of things that you can tweek. If they put a default WHM/Cpanel install on the server for you, a lot of the config is set to "SHARE" resources amoung domains...

Yah.. i figgured about that "MY Server" thing.. My problem isnt related to my CMS, it's more MySQL configuration.. i think.. that's really all I was hoping for was at least a specific direction I could start looking in..
Anyway, today support told me it was definatly SQL/Memory related, so I upgraded with an additional 1Gb ram (which they did REAL fast - i'm impressed!) and i'll start looking more at my MySQL setup..

any good tips on where to start with other tweaks I can make since my server isnt sharing resources??

Tearabite,

On your server, you are just hosting one site correct?

Yep ONE site all to itself.. that's why i was a bit surprised that it was falling over so easily. I hope the added ram helps - and i'm sure i've got lot's of MySQL optimaztion to do..

Since it's only one site, what WHM changes can/should i make?

No changes in WHM. That's the difficult thing. You'll have to have changes to the server config, and the apache config too. But - here is the great news - Kayla is on the job.

She's not only the boss, she's the BOMB! (and not too hard on the eyes either...)

I am currently looking through your helpdesk tickets.

How is the server doing at the moment?

Running great now, but it usually does during the evening - The trouble doesnt usually begin until around 11am-ish (pacific time) when traffic hits around 700 uniques vistors per hour (probably 2500 page views/hr) .. tomorrow will be the big test..
