PLEASE HELP: Error: 553 Can't open that file

Hi all, we moved from a shared server to a dedicated server a few days back, now we get 553 Can't open that file error when we try to FTP to a certain directory of one of the sites. I suspect it's a permission issue on the directory. I've tried to change the permission of files in the directory but are not able to. Any suggestions.

ssh:

for user:
chown -fR <new_username> /home/abc

For grp:
chgrp -fR <new_grp> /home/abc

Obviously change the directory to reflect what you need to change. Hope that can help

Same problem....still !!!

Thanks for the suggestion, we forwarded it onto support but don't know if they used it. WE still have the problem after a week and don't seem to be any closer to getting it fixed. I'm getting frustrated with support now as they have lost me with their jargon. Twice they have told me it's been fixed when it hasn't been...and still it's not fixed. Does anyone, ANYONE, have any other suggestions.......our customer is about to walk away from us because we can't resolve the problem...

i really hate to point out the obvious here but here goes:

pulpfriction,

Your Business website (in your sig) ... ITC Projects, well I visited it and based on what I see your company specializes in WEB DEVELOPMENT, PROJECT MANAGEMENT, DEDICATED HOSTING, Information Technology & Communications. There must be some sort of misunderstanding, how could you get lost in support's "jargon" when it is essential to the very industry your business operates in? Once again -- Just the obvious.

Do you perhaps have someone in your company in charge of IT that would be on the same page as the Surpass Hosting staff... as well as jargon? Perhaps that would speed up things for you.

... maybe someone from your IT department who is fluent in Web Server Jargon can get things situated for you... it was just a recommendation. I think it's a 'helpful' recommendation because whomever manages the dedicated server in your company is probably the person who can be on the same page as Surpass as far as what needs to be done. It's unfair that you need to be up to speed with all this ssh jargon when someone in your IT department could get this settled for you...

I guess what we are really hoping for is someone who has experienced the same problem and sourced a resolution for it. I don't think it will help to re-visit all the various 'fixes' coming from support that have all proved incorrect so far. Maybe my terminology 'jargon' isn't fair (but only just not fair), but the 'advice' has so far been less than helpful and the problem continues without a fix in sight....I've been with surpass for years and have nothing but priase for their past support and their product (and the people behind the scenes), but in this instance we have hit a wall and don't know where to turn to next.

... perhaps there is something they told you to do in the ticket that you don't understand: maybe you can post it here and we can guide you.
