Decc vs Cpanel (WHM)
Hi,
Last 2 month i have some problems with bandwidth. I used too much of it So i needed to pay extra, no problem. When i didn't see any overloaded bandwidth, i contacted support and they told me that they use different tool to check bandwidth. Can someone tell me how DECC calculates bandwidth and why is so different then in Cpanel. Support also told me that it's equal 4,5 Mb (average ?) in DECC, 1,5 Tb of transfer per month. Since we are almost at the end of the month i just check cpanel and notice that i used : Bandwidth (this month) 626156.42 Megabytes But when i checked DECC i get this. ![]() So i overloaded bandwidth again, but i only used 0,6 Tb . Does cpanel checks only port 80 for bandwidth and DECC checks network card port ? But i have no clue which application or something else would used almost another Tera of transfer. Or am i missing something ? I'd just like to have some explanations and dedicated server owners they though. Thanks

Brandon, thanks for the link.
Looks like i need to find a hosting that doesn't use 95 %, cause it's getting to expensive for me. It's a bit hard to control high peaks. Brandon, do you maybe know for how long does surpass uses this? I didn't receive any notifications about this, but my email was wrong in DECC and support software.

This policy has been in effect for years... and is actually a pretty decent system, in my opinion. It allows you to use the bandwidth when you have spikes, but you are not charged for overages until you hit the 95 percentile for the month?

you could always go the unmetered route... surpass does offer this type of dedicated plan... I don't know what your overages charges typically are but if it's cheaper for you to go unmetered then pay for overages then this would be something to look into i.e. discuss with support.

95th percentile monitors all traffic in and out of the port. Cpanel/WHM only shows the HTTP traffic for a domain. So things such as mail and ftp traffic won't be counted in there. Pretty much any dedicated host uses 95th percentile, because that is how upstream providers charge. The only hosts that meter down to the megabyte would be in countries with limited inbound traffic such as Australia, HK, and parts of europe. And even then, they charge very high rates for overages.
