Quick Query
Is there a way to set up an email only account in cpanel, he doesnt want a website or anything,
I have seen sites before that the email works for but when you go to the domain it doesn't work just comes up with the same error as a site thats not registered? |

Host the domain, build his email account. Don't put an index page in his directory, and turn off directory browsing.
A browse to his domain should get you a '403 Forbidden' page. Checked this on one of my shared hosting add-on domains. PC

cheers for that, had already considered that way he would rather have a blank index page than a 403 forbidden if thats the only way! Looking for more of a 404 page as in nothing there at all.

Well, dont know if this would work, but build the account, and have him just update the mx records with his registrar, leaving the name servers blank, or pointed elsewhere...
not positive, but its an idea? |

You could try a custom 404 page. I know it can be done, but I never messed around with it...
