VPS 10 unstable?

I'm on VPS10, and I've been experiencing problems with it for some time now.

Today, for the past 3 hours, I'm getting an error message emailed to me from the server every 10 minutes:

httpd failed Fri Jul 13 16:47:30 2007. A restart was attempted automagicly.

Obviously, something is terribly wrong with this server, but in the past 2 hours I haven't even had a reply to my tickets from support.

Is anyone else experiencing a similar problem? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

The VPS is lightly used right now, so it's not likely a resource issue, I've had no problems with the same sites on a shared server in the past, so I figured a VPS would be better... but so far, it's worse.

We do have a lot of tickets in our queue and I don't think 2 hours is an extremely unreasonable amount of time to wait for a reply.

As long as you don't keep replying to the ticket it will keep going up the queue and get looked at quicker. As soon as you reply the time gets reset and goes to the back of the line

When the site is down, it's a long time! Now it's back up again, and all you have left are the logs to go over, rather than seeing it happen in 'real time'.

This problem has been ongoing for months, so it's very frustrating, especially since by the time anyone from support looks into it, things are 'working fine'.

Red face

I feel your pain. I have come to blame it on gremlins. If it dose not go to the next level I clued in that support is clueless with VPS issues so I don't even waste my time anymore. When enough members leave my forums I will just dump my VPS.

Use that money some place else. LOL

I have found that my VPS is more stable than the shared hosting. Of course, I initially had a bunch of networking (DNS & IP) problems, and I still have issues occasionally. However, the overall improved reliability saves my time, which is valuable!

Keep [politely] pressing on desk.surpasshosting.com to fix the problems. Sometimes they are slow, but they provide a remarkable amount of service/management for the price. You will enjoy the smooth sailing [with the occasional burp] once you iron out the kinks from your VPS.

It is really annoying most times though.

I barely use bandwidth or even the space they give us. Yet it sometimes takes hours to get a response. Today, I have a problem with kmemsize going in the red in the VPS page. I include in the ticket that I can basically restart or stop vps at any time but this kmemsize issue is causing other problems.

Response from the ticket?

"I have restarted vps"

Problem is still there, 12 hours later pop FINALLY works again.

I have about 100 of these in my mailbox
pop failed Wed Jul 18 21:05:02 2007. A restart was attempted automagicly.

It was so nice. I had a 70 day uptime going and the whole day site has been crashing on its own. Have not changed anything, still average 10 users on the site at any time. I could live off shared hosting now but I am here for the reliability of VPS and it is not there.

Everything is back to normal! Never thought I'd be so worried like yesterday. Having memory go to 99%, crash VPS then repeat was so annoying. Thanks support!
