Perl Updgrade Help

Hi,

I've been ignoring a lot of notices about my version of Perl being outdated -- can anyone give me some guidance on the proper process for doing an upgrade? I've googled it a few times and always have a hard time finding good/clear instructions so I don't mess something up!

Thanks in advance...

-Steve

Hi Steve

An installer for this upgrade is available from cPanel: http://layer1.cpanel.net/perl588installer.tar.gz

Or if you would like us to do it for you pop in a support ticket and paste the ticket id in this thread and we'll take care of it for you.

quick fix

I'm sure Mike or another support member is already doing this for you now but a really basic walk through is below for anyone else who is getting daily spam from cpanel.

You will need to login via SSH as the root user, this is required.

Once logged in run these commands. **Explanation for newbs= making a backup, download the new version, and installing**

perl -MCPAN -e 'autobundle'
wget http://layer1.cpanel.net/perl588installer.tar.gz
tar xvzf perl588installer.tar.gz
cd perl588installer.tar.gz
./install

This will take awhile to complete. Next we want to check everything and restart cpanel. Run these commands

/usr/local/cpanel/bin/checkperlmodules
/usr/local/cpanel/startup

Be sure you are watching when you do the last command, if you see a box go by that says you are using mbox and need to convert you need to do this update. That is a whole different walkthrough though

Total time should only be about 15-20 mins.
