A must use for dedicated servers

This is one of the most important tools that comes along with any dedi. If you are an SSH/CLI user screen needs to be your best friend.

Why you ask? Let's say you are running an intricate command like recompiling apache. All of a sudden the power goes out or fido goes crazy on your router, you are now left with a half completed compile that is nowhere near working. You would think that it would keep running but it does not. As soon as the tunnel closes the command stops.

With screen you can log back in later, type screen -x, and the ssh session will still be there. I've learned after many screw ups to always be running a screen session

screen rules me since the 90s!

Good advice...

You can run multiple screen sessions too, attaching (screen -r) and detaching (within session: Ctrl+A, D) from them at your will.

Today I got Gkrellm-daemon (gkrellmd) working on my dedicated server, and I have a client running on my Desktop with nifty graphs - check out the attached Screenshot.jpg
