php recompilation process

since moving to the new server, a customer has let me know that ps spell doesnt function anymore for her smf forum. i sent in a support ticket and was informed php would need to be recompiled and was asked for a convenient time to do so. my question is how long does this process take and should i be concerned with any functions that are now running to cease if overlooked in the recompilation process

TIA

The last time I recompiled apache+php last year it took about 30 minutes. I don't have a particularly powerful server though...
I recompiled using the older version of cpanel/easyapache (version 2, I think?) which gave the option of reloading the previous configuration. I then had the option of modifying it (eg adding extra php modules). Just taking a look at the new version of easyapache that cpanel installed a few months ago, it looks like it doesn't reload the previous easyapache configuration. If your server has been updated to the newer version then I would use the phpinfo() function to make a list of what you currently have installed to avoid anything being missed and breaking your clients websites. Keep an eye on error_log after the recompile!

Cheers
Jonathan
