Can't use SSH :( any ideas?

Hi all ..

i'm a student and living in student dorms on my college right now ..

my university is offering a free internet line to all rooms but they have some limits .. all of us r using the internet through the university proxy .. without this proxy we simply can't surf the internet ..

most ports are closed .. ports that r opened as i know r 80 and 433 (SSL) and the winsock ..

i can't access my website via FTP (21) or SSH (22) .. but i can access the WHM and the cpanel .. and through my cpanel i upload my files to my site ! pathetic !

i know this is a stupid procedure from the university but at least they r offering free internet with high speed ..

anyway i need to use my SSH account but i don't know what to do ..

is there any application that i can upload to my site and use it to access my site? i've tried the 2 java applications that provided in the cpanel but it doesn't work .. i think they r using my computer connection to connect ..

and since i have my own server i think that i can change my SSH port to any open port to connect .. i'm thinking about 443 (The SSL port) since i don't use it but i'm afraid it will be dangerous for some how?

maybe u don't offer any support for this kind of problems since it's not a Surpass service issue .. and i respect that but i don't know who should i ask else? really i need ur experience in this issue ..

thanks in advance

Try changing the SSH port to something like 1291 or 8080 -- maybe that port is open?

i don't need SSL .. so how can i disable it and set the port to ssh?

Very interesting issue

Yes it is possible to change it to the SSL port but since I have never tested this it may not work.

You would need to edit your httpd.conf and remove the port 443 entries. Then restart apache. Next you will edit the sshd.conf, change the port to 443, and restart sshd

This should do it.

Honestly it would be easier to use a relay server or something like that. Connect to relay on port 80 and then connect to your real box on 22.

Or you can just drop out of school

I think this will help you

Linux.com :: PHP Shell, for secure remote access when SSH isn't available

Be sure to protect that page with .htaccess/.htpasswd if you end up using a php shell! If not, it's almost certainly going to get indexed by Google, and someone will take advantage of your poor security.
