videos skipping on new server
We have a company that supplies website video actors to walk out on to websites. We set up a new dedicated server with Core 2 Quad, 3 gig ram and my videos are having a problem skipping. We tested them on another server that wasn't in the surpass mix and it didn't skip. My question is did we miss something setting this up? The server we tested doesn't have any special video software on it. My other dedicated server in this mix also has a problem with videos skipping, so i thought i would move to a different one. Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help |

Is it's a streaming issue, network issue, CPU spiking? I assume this is some sort of Flash thing... so any details will be useful.
And if you can, please send sample links our way. |

the site is called PageGravy.com. I'm not sure about the cpu spiking. there aren't that many videos on the server and according to the stats, it's not being overloaded by any means. Thank you for your time.

It worked earlier... but now it can't find the crossdomain.xml file. Anyways, what I found was that the video played quiet smoothly for me. I'm on a cable connection (5mbit) with a pretty modern computer.
Basically the only way in which I can see it skipping is if the Flash player struggling with the amount of transparency from the FLV file, or clogged tubes so that the video is having to buffer. You might be able to tweak the buffer settings on the video to load more before starting, lowering the bitrate a bit, or monitoring the CPU used by your browser when you're watching the video. FLV file is roughly 9.15MB, which on a slow connection will definitely take some time to get going. I'd suggest checking to see if you have the issue with skipping due to low bandwidth or possible CPU spikes on the client. |
