I am very interested in a solution like this... I think i might be able to pay for up to 50% of a server...

But if this deal was going to go through... My suggestion is that the one that pays the most is the one in charge of payment, changing root-passwords on the server and be in control.. (That would probably be me if i pay 50%) ... And anyway... My suggestion is that if anyone needs special things installed on the server.. They go through the one that pays directly to surpass... Any comments on the idea???

(And in case this becomes reality it would have to be strict rules on useage on the server...) I think we would have to sit down and make a document on what is allowed and what is not before starting.. (i.e irc-bots and such) and maybe some rules on serverload... Just suggesting things here.. Looking forward to hearing more about this..

:thumbsup2 (Where is the bloody Surpass-smiley with the nice poster that said Surpass and with the thumbs up??? I WANT IT!)

Well we probably have enough to go through with this if we care to. People who have expressed interest (but not yet committed) are:
  • mrleblanc (David Le Blanc)
  • itsmethee
  • Ehaanaes
  • CrYo
  • Keleigh

For the Intel Celeron 1.7Ghz 400Mhz Bus - No Setup $99/Month package with cPanel/WHM CP $20.00/Month , the costs breakdown is as follows
  1. Ehaanaes - $54
  2. itsmethee - $16.50
  3. Keleigh - $16.50
  4. CrYo - $16.50
  5. mrleblanc - $16.50

Of course, Ehaanaes would be the main contact and controller since he would be the majority share holder. We still would have room for one more person to join in, to reduce the costs even further. With one more person, everyone other than Ehaanaes would have their monthly costs reduced to $13.20.

We could have a 5 or 6 directories named after each contributing partner. The agreement could be for everyone to respect one another's private directores. Of course, your domain names would point to your subdirectories so as far as your audience/clients perspective, nothing will have changed. You will have doubled your disk space, bandwidth, etc. We could have a discussion forum on our server where we might discuss software installs and other issues. Everyone would be responsible for backing up their own databases, etc. I think this could be a very good deal...what do you think? : :miam:

I've been interested in sharing a server for a VERY long time. I would be very commited (and know I can make my monthly share) but the only problem is usage. Doesn't matter how many people that are on it, but if one person uses a lot of the resources, that could cause a problem.

I still want to share a server, just maybe not with 10 people. I could swing payments for half of one, and would even share with a 3rd person if need be... I'll be watching this thread.

I know that there is no way to actually restrict the resources used by each user, but i think we would all have to agree on how much we could use. Ehaanaes would obviously have half of the space to himself and then we would split up the rest. I have multiple domains that I run right now so i just wanted to check to make sure that we would be aloud to set up sub acounts, right? Basically the way it would work, is we would each have our own resellers acount in whm so that we could set up the rest of our domains, right?

Sorry if this post didn't make much sence but i am really tired and have not woken up yet.

One more thing you must remember is the fact that it is a 80 GB HDD.. Not 80GB of free space.... And anyway.. Are all of you only interested in getting the cheapest deal possible?? But with root-access????
That is how it seems to me.. Anyway.. Give me some more info..

Although I have only used 245.64 Megabytes of my 2 GB of space on the Deluxe plan, I like the idea of having a little more room if it is ever needed. However, my prime reason is to have a little more flexibility with installing programs that are not offered through scripta. I currently use moodle (moodle.org) to teach my online courses. This is an open source software program that is updated 2-3 times a year. Because the shared servers don't allow for teriary unzipping, it gets to be a real hassle since I need to unzip everything to my local hard drive and then copy things over, etc.

The reason that I really want to be on dedicated is the fact that there is more flexibility, and hopefully, better server preformance. On the shared too many people mess things up on the servers. I am sick of some jackass ruining the server for all of us so I am hopeing with a trusted group of responsible people, we won't have this problem.
