moving a dedi

Is it possible to move a dedicated server over to surpass? I'm talking about a server that someone owns. If I ownded a server, could I physically ship it to surpass's cages and have it taken care of by them?

The question isn't for me, it's for a friend of mine. He owns his own server and want's it out of his place. He has it in his basement and doesn't have the time to take care of it constantly. Also, would the same prices apply to this server as getting a dedi from surpass?

What you are asking for is called "Co-Location", and they have it listed on their main page now, "Surpass Hosting > web site hosting > reseller hosting > affordable web hosting > dedicated servers > colocation", though there is no where to order it. I'm guessing they are still working out all the details on getting it set up, but it apears it will be available in the near future.

As for the price, it should be cheaper as you are only paying for a place to put the server, and the bandwidth. Where as dedicated server prices also include the cost of renting the hardware itself. Of course, if it's a tower server, they might not host it, or charge you more.

I remember some talk about co-location a while ago... I think they do it on request.. Send the sales department a mail and see what they say about it..

Would they allow a normal desktop computer to act as a server in their cages?
