Uptime.

I'm curious to know if anyone else with a Dedicated server is noticing random downtime, where their server is off the net for a few mins, then real slow for a few more mins afterwords. The server itself isn't crashing, it's just loosing net conectivity.

I want to know if it's just my server, and if I should look into it on my end, or if it's happening to others, and it's Surpass' problem. It's been happening for about 3 days now, and getting worse.

see the annoucements... they're doing stuff with the routers - adding more redundant bandwidth to the data center.

the random downtime is quite annoying.... seems like every week i am down. I would suggest in the future you maybe e-mail out a schedule of planned outages or even do these at night?

Have you signed-up for your server's notification mailings?
With customers and site visitors in every time zone - when is "night"?

People complain about potholes in the streets and then they complain when the road is closed for repairs.

By the way, 99.5% uptime equals 3.6 hours a month of downtime!

If a server is down/inaccesible it's important to email support. speculating in a thread isn't going to help anyone.

there are some router changes happening.

understand that we are talking about equipment that is not on closeout special at compUSA. If we want to be able to get Level III support with the vendor in the event of an issue it must be done during business hours.

that rules many weekends and evenings out.

This is a regretable consequence and frustrating for some customers, because the occasional outages may happen during the business day. However, with hosting there is no perfect time for maintenance/upgrades.

Upgrades and improvements are done to make things better, not worse.

Thanks for your patience in advance.

they are located East Coast, outages should be on east coast time... everyone knows that.

never saw that downtime figure before, if i did I wouldn't have hosted here. But its no biggy anymore I bought my new box and will be hosting it where i work with our 99.9% uptime.

and I live in pittsburgh, PA so don't talk to me about potholes and road closings.. if you ever driven our roads you would know what i mean

I didn't say that was a "downtime figure". I was trying to say that even at nearly perfect, there will be times when a site is unavailable.

Do you hold yourself to 99.5% uptime? If you work 40 hours per week, 52 weeks a year, you can only miss 10.4 hours a year before you are fired!

Surpass does a great job of keeping our sites running. If you find out how to guarantee a 99.9% uptime, please return and enlighten us.
