Domain DNS

once a new account is created, is there anything that has to be done on my side for the domain name?

ie:
1) I create the account something.com
2) all the customer has to do is set the name servers for his domain name to my given nameservers
3) everything else takes care of itself

is this thinking correct or is there something else that has to be done on my end?

That's corrent. Once their domain is pointed at the right NS, and you have created their account, it shoudl all take care of itself

so if the domain is bought and the nameserver set roughly 72 hours ago, should it be instantly resolved when the new account is created? so they buy the domain and set it to the correct nameservers then 3 days later i create the something.com account with webhost manager, should that site then be accessible from something.com instantly?

no.

It's 24 to 72 hours from the time the REGISTRAR can confirm with the HOST that the domain belongs there.

I know this for a fact because I bought a domain name and pointed it, but did not create the account. When I created the account it was still another 24 hours before the domain showed up.
