Would any of these servers be acceptable?

Would any of these servers be acceptable for colocation?

http://www1.us.dell.com/content/prod...=04&l=en&s=bsd

Also, can I ship it to Surpass without an operating system on it, and will they take care of the rest?

Thanks.

Would guess they will work fine.

Tell me when you have done this and tell me how it went. Might have to give it a try for myself some time when i get enough $$$.

I've tested the Dell PowerEdge 1600SC, a bit customized in my dad's office, really excellent servers, surpass should have some of them.

I got two of those servers at work (mine are 600 SCs, earlier generation of the ones displayed in that page). The machines are both perfect but the RAM that was shipped with them eventually died on me, out of warranty. Also, they hate cheap RAM, so right now the cost of the RAM on each box exceeds what we paid for the servers themselves.

At my previous job we had racks and racks of the same series of Dell boxes. We never lost a box, all the trouble we had was related to people, not to the servers themselves.

I would not buy a computer/server from Dell, HP, or any other Name Brand company. Personnally speaking, I rather built my own (which I have and do) and know exactly what I am getting. Futher more CoLocation are not for the "low end" Intel or AMD powered computer but for actual servers that cost in the thousands of dollars. Items like Dual 73 GB Ultra320 SCSI 15K RPM Harddrives, Four (4) plus gigs of ram, Dual or Quads processors motherboards.
CoLocation are great way to go for the non-average hosting customer compared to the Dedicated, on the overall long term cost.

Where can I find a 1U or 2U server? That is my goal with colocation - to have a cheaper dedicated experience.
