Hello!
While I am not exactly new here, since I signed up some time ago, this is my first post. For quite some time now I have been looking for a new web host. Oddly enough, it's not because I dislike my current host. In fact, I don't really want to leave my current host but I need more space. I have an 800MB account currently and have just under 150MB left. While I could upgrade where I'm at, I can't really afford to pay more. Thus, that is why I am here.
The packages here are amazing for the price. So I have been thinking, should I, shouldn't I. Then there is the question of whether some of the content that I have on my site would be allowed on Surpass servers. I have a good many Real Audio files, a small number of Midi files (which were made specifically for my site by fans) and a good many pictures. I will include the link below if perhaps someone from Surpass can check it out and let me know if my site can be hosted here with the content that I have on it. If not, that's ok. I just want to make sure first before making any decisions. My site consists of 4 main sections: a movie section, a series section, a musical section and another series (like a remake of the original series). Each section contains some real audio files, the 1st series section being the one that contains the most. Well, anyway, I guess I should just tell you the link now before I go on and on. http://www.fameforever.com/ Pam (aka. VanillaOrchids) |

Thanks Clove.
Is the message board the proper place to ask my question though? I have read the terms of hosting and they basically read all the same as other companies hosting terms, so while one host will allow real audio files others don't. That's why I thought I'd ask here. |

Hi Vanilla, your question can only be answered by Admin, they have not looked at your site yet, but I have let them known.
I glanced over your site briefly and didnt see anything. FYI; There are many sites hosted here that are "Fan" sites. So I'm sure yours would be here too. Only thing I can say from knowning Real is that Real (company) can and have been evil about it on other websites. Maybe having a different/ more universal format could help? |

As long as the content of your site is legal, there is no reason why you can't host it here, providing you are nice to the server.
I'm looking at what you have, and the audio files are what's a little iffy. Unless you have permission to redistribt the music (providing they are tracks that aren't universally available.. i.e. someone had to/should have bought them), it doesn't matter what format they are in... I noticed you specifically said you wouldn't have .mp3s. You generally still need permission to redistrubt music. But if you have it so that visitors cannot download the files, you're probably okay. I didn't try really hard to download a file myself though. Surpass does allow streaming audio. From the looks of it, your site does look fine to be hosted at Surpass.

Do you mean that Real doesn't like when people use their file format on web sites? I've always used that format for the fact that the file sizes are so much smaller than most others, if not all others. Quote:
I stream the real audios and I have a no right click script in place on the sound pages but there are ways around it. I have tried to keep people from downloading them though. Well, I appreciate the opinions! Thank you. |
