Shared Hosting - Standard & Power

Hello surmunity,

I want to shift my existing domain from iPowerweb to you guys. iPowerweb has very slow response times and their pricing is also higher than you guys. They also use funny ports for webmail access, which are generally blocked by corporate networks!

I had a look at your 'shared' hosting packages.

The first doubt I have is: does 'unmetered' in the hosting plans mean 'unlimited'?
(URL: http://www.surpasshosting.com/hostingplans.php)

The second is, other than bandwidth & disk space, the difference between the 'Standard' & 'Power' shared hosting packages is that 'Power' has 1 add-on domain included in the 65 USD annual fee, while 'Standard' does not have it in 48 USD annual fee.

Does this mean that if I opt for the 'Standard' plan and want to transfer my domain to you, I need to pay an annual fee of : 48 + 16 (domain transfer) = 64 USD and this 16 USD price is recurring every year.

With the power package I get 1 domain free (transfer or new) which gets renewed every year within that 65 USD bundle (No 16 USD overhead)

Is my understanding correct?

Also the CPanel demo shows the webmail access URL as:
http://66.194.40.50:2082/horde/login.php

Is this port # 2082 standard for all accounts or it only applies to this demo? Please also let me know what non-satndard ports like this you are using in your setup. This may limit access to adminstration & webmail for the website from within many corporate networks with strict firewalls.

Rgds, Prakash

1) Unmetered is not the same as unlimited. By using "unmetered" they are saying they won't keep track of how many you use, but if it ever gets to the point that you have so many it's hogging resources then they are going to step in and say something.

2) No, an addon domain is only used if you want to host two (or more) websites on the same account. All plan types need a domain name in order to be used (under most circumstances).

3) Port 2082 is the standard port on all servers for cPanel. 2095 is webmail, 2086 is WHM. Just figured I'd include those in case you were wondering.

Hope to see you around here soon!

Thanks for your jet fast reply, Now I understand. so that means if surpasshosting is manging my domain its generally 16 USD on top of what is quoted. So the standard package comes to 48+16 = 64 & the power packagecomes to 65 + 16 = 81

Am I right.

Also is it possible to access webmail normally via port # 80 or in secure mode via port # 443 (Default ports for http & https)?

I ask this as all non-standard ports are blocked by corporate networks and since I spend most of my time at office, its no good if I cannot access my emails. Just to add 25 & 100 are also blocked so I cannot use a mail client

Please confirm this ports issue.

A minor correction, I meant ports 25 & 110 and not 25 & 100. Sorry that was a typo.

prakash -

The webmail that comes preinstalled only runs on 2095. If that causes problems for you (as it does for me), you can always run your own webmail program that runs on an unblocked port. I've found other ways around it, but that would be the easiest.

Failure is not an option. It comes standard with all Microsoft products.

You are right. $48 or $65 is for the hosting and the $16 is for the domain name per year.
