Domain transfer

Hello community members, How do I transfer my domain to Surpass once I have opted for the oc5 plan?

While registering for oc5 it asks for:
"
Please enter the domain you wish to use.
Enter the date this domain will expire and we will send you a notice
30 days before this domain expires.
"

My domain was registered by my previous webhost - ipowerweb. I guess I have no control over my domain and have to get things changed (like name servers) with them only. Following shows up with a whois:

Name Server: NS1.IPOWERWEB.NET NS1.IPOWERDNS.COM
ICANN Registrar: TUCOWS INC.
Created: 10-jul-2004
Expires: 10-jul-2005
Status: REGISTRAR-LOCK

How do I proceed by making a shift from ipowerweb to surpass - webhosting + domain hosting. Can ipowerweb give me the rights to manage my own domain? Do I need to contact TUCOWS or iPowerweb?

Please advice.

Rgds, Prakash

i would contact ipowerweb and find out what you need to do in order to make changes to the domain or transfer it.

If you contact them and inform them they should let you just transfer it over but that is why I would rather register my own domain and not do it through a host. If I am in controle, you never run into problems with old hosts not being willing to transfer domains.

okay so to transfer your domain, you need to let your current hosting company know first? or just to transfer your files over?

You should transfer the files a week before the old host's account expires, then ask them (if they are in control of the domain name) to change it to Surpass's servers. If you have control over the domain, then do it yourself. The reason for the week advance is that it gives you a buffer while the domain propagates. This will make the transfer totally seamless unless you have a lot of dynamic user-added content or something.
