Post Shared Hosting Questions

Hi all,

I'm pretty new to web hosting, and would appreciate it if you could help me make sure that my plan is sound. I have an existing domain, which I've already transferred to Surpass Domains a month ago for $15.99. I will switch from another hosting service to Surpass Hosting in the next few days. I also want to add/register a second domain, as an add-on to my upcoming Surpass Hosting account.

Am I correct to believe I can sign up for a Standard shared account which will include both domains without additional charge since one domain is already registered? And would I have to make my existing site the add-on to do so, or does it not matter which one is the main domain and which is the add-on? I'm basically looking for the cheapest possibility to begin with, and will upgrade as my site traffic improves.

Thanks much,
Brian

P.S. Forgot to also ask: do I need to specifically cancel with my previous hosting account to prevent being double-billed and other possible problems? Or is that taken care of automatically like with domain transfers? Thanks again!

No. Hosting and domain registration are 2 different things. You have to have both domains registered (either with Surpassdomains or another registrar), and then you need hosting for them.

The Standard shared account is made to host 1 domain. You can purchase an addon domain (this is strictly for the hosting, separate from domain registration fees) for $15. Or, you could move up to the Power Plan for an additional $1.04/mo, which includes 1 addon domain and additional space and transfer. That would be my recommendation.

It doesn't matter which account you make the primary and which is the addon. Either way, they'll share the same control panel, disk space, and transfer. Each domain can have its own email. Just put down one of your domains at sign up, and then request to add the second.

Yes. I wouldn't wait until the day before the bill is due to transfer your site. You should move it, change your nameservers to the ones assigned to you by Surpass, and then contact your old host and cancel. If you don't, they will bill you. They don't care whether you are actually using the account or not. If you don't cancel, they will expect to be paid.

Hope that answers your questions.

John

Failure is not an option. It comes standard with all Microsoft products.

Thanks John,

And if I pay by the year, with Standard, I'm paying $48, plus $15.99 for my new domain registration, plus $15 to have the new domain hosted as an add-on, = $78.99 total... and with Power, I'm paying $65, plus $15.99 for my new domain registration, = $80.99 total? That would be the better deal because you get more for $2. More than I originally expected to pay, but still a great deal - I paid $145 last year for just the one site! Thanks much.
