Transfer DOmain?
Hello,
Before signing up i would like to know, is the $16 transfer rate just to transfer the domain over or is it to transfer it and have it registered, or would i need to register it in addition to the $16 transfer fee. I have a domain that will loose it's lease at 12:02 AM tonight with 1and1 hosting, would i be better off waiting until then and just re-registering the domain? Thanks in advance, Brennan |

It's too late to transfer it now. You can't transfer an expired domain, and if one expires during the transfer, it can get messy. At this point you have 2 choices: renew with 1and1 and then transfer it later, or let it expire and then just register it with Surpassdomains. If it expires, it won't be available for quite a while. The expiration period can take a couple of months before it can be reregistered. There is a redemption period that then goes to a pending delete state. During this time, you can't use the domain, and can't transfer it anywhere else. Then, even if you can wait, there's always the possibility that someone else could get it before you. I had a client lose a domain because she was having issues with register.com, and before she knew it, it was bought by a names broker who kindly offered to sell it back to her for $3,000 US. ![]() Your call, but if it were me and I cared about the domain, I'd renew with 1and1, and then transfer it. Hope that helps. John

Sorry,
I'm using Enom - They say 5 days because if the registrar does not approve it before that they just transfer it.

I also use eNom. The last transfer I did got stuck trying to retrieve current whois information. I finally had to contact eNom who had to manually push it through.
That had never happened before, and probably won't happen again, but it does highlight the danger of waiting until the last second. Even when everything goes right, I've seen it take longer than 5 days, though not all that often. It ususally only happens when you're in a hurry. ![]()
