I need a LOT of bandwidth (media hosting)
I need to host videos for a site that is very video-intensive. The site could generate anywhere up to 130,000 GB/mo, depending on how successful it is. Surpass' dedicated servers only offer 1,200 GB/mo and I'm not sure how much they would charge per GB over that, or if their infrastructure can even handle a load like this.
Do you guys have any suggestions? I haven't done much research yet, but I have seen Powerstream.net which is a hard-core media hosting company. They offer scaleable hosting of over 100,000 GB/month, but they charge $1.50/GB for that. Here is their pricing info: http://www.powerstream.net/services/powerhost.asp?pn=3 Any input would be very helpful. Thanks EDIT: Oops, I see it's $.40/GB for extra bandwidth on dedicated servers, but what is the max? Last edited by penske1; August 3rd, 2005 at 4:04 PM.. |

A few semi-OT comments:
- The amount of bandwidth you're talking about is a bit extreme. 100mbps for a month straight (which isn't even possible with a single NIC) will transfer roughly 30TB. The amount you mention is about 130TB. - You're going to need a hardcore cluster to accomplish this, as a single server will choke with that kind of traffic. Gigabit connections to the switch are a good idea, too. And those are just a few basic ideas.. something to think about.

which means you can use up to 325,000 gigs/mo in bandwidth ![]() |
