Want to move my site to Surpasshosting, but I have Questions

Hi,

I currently have one of my websites registered through Network Solutions where I want to leave it for now. It is hosted at www.hostsave.com, but I have grown tired of some support issues there, as well as a less-than-steller performance and services.

Surpasshosting seems to be the right fit for me. I do, however, have some questions.

1) How long will the move take? The idea that my website itself is down for a few days doesn't bother me at all. However, I have about 10 POP emails associated with my website that I want to minimize the downtime on, if possible. I've been told that any downtime for the website will also mean downtime for the email addresses as well, since the email addresses are heavily used, I want to minimize that.

2) Hostsave *does not* use cpanel. I've been told (thanks to great members at www.broadbandreports.com) that the move might be a pain since Hostsave does not have cpanel; they insetad use their own sort of management which is severely limited compared to cpanel. If I have to move all of my data myself, that's fine...I just want to make sure that the switch from HOSTSAVE to SURPASSHOSTING is done the right way.

3) Once Surpasshosting is "in the loop" and Hostsave is "out of the loop", do I have to modify anything at Network Solutions? Or, if I do need to modify anthing (like DNS), does this need to be done ahead of time?

Thanks for any input.
Jeff

I caught your post over on BBR. Glad you're thinking of joining us Surpassers!

New accounts here are manually verified, so setting up your new space could take up to 24 hours. As I mentioned on BBR, you might want to leave everything up at Hostsave while you make the move, so that the transition will be seamless.

You will need to update the nameserver entries with Netsol, pointing them to your new Surpass server. You'll get an email with instructions and the details once your account is activated.

When I made my move here, it took less than 48 hours and there was zero downtime because I left everything up on the old server until the new DNS info had propagated.

EDIT: Neglected to mention that nameservers take 24-72 hours to propagate. So, once you update your info with Netsol, that's how long it will take for your new site to be active and your new email to work (but the old account will work in the meantime, if you don't cancel your Hostsave account until after that period).
