Surpass doesn't allow any chat software. This appears to basically be that type of software.

I think to use Teamspeak you would probably have to go the dedicated route. Not sure how much resources it uses, but I am sure it would end up bogging the server down. If you have any questions like this that we can't answer here, I believe you can send an email to presalessurpasshosting.com and they should be able to answer them.

DewKnight.. Thanks for adding the e-mail address when you give "Talk to these people at Surpass" advice. It really is helpful.

That is misleading. Surpass does not ban _all_ chat software; just the ones which place the load on the server. There are, for example, Java Applets which connect peer-to-peer instead of routing through the server. There are also chats such as jIRC which rely on external servers for the updating and data-handling that are allowed.

By what I have read, isnt Teamspeak a peer-to-peer software? Anyways, thanks for the responses!

Obviously if your script isn't using any server resources, Surpass probably wouldn't do anything. However, this is from their ToS:

CHAT ROOMS
Surpass Hosting does not provide nor allow chat rooms on shared hosting enviroments. You may elect for a dedicated server to run a chat room efficiently.

Mainly, that refers to chats such as phpMyChat, which refreshes the page once every.. 5 seconds? or so. This puts in a call to the database every 5 seconds, from every user. This kills the server by itself.

Chat scripts such as jIRC are allowed, because (as I understand it) they have a constant connection to the IRC server open and are transparently notified when to update their display.

The reason the TOS says that is because some users would be unsure what scripts did what by which method, and it would create confusion. It is easier to blanket-ban chat scripts and allow them on a per-request basis than to have to suspend accounts because of the chats.

If in doubt, email support first. http://desk.surpasshosting.com/
