Blocked IPs

Currently, my web servers IP is blocked by a friend of mines web server, which means I cannot email 2 important people at all, all the emails keep bouncing.

My host says its not their fault and they have done nothing to fix the problem, and say it is something to do with me or the host blocking their IP.

I am changing hosts because of this problem, and you guys seem to answer alot of queries without blaming the users.

If I move here, will i have my IP blocked by anyone, stopping me from emailing people? or will you atleast do something about it if it is blocked (cos I know getting blocked is not your fault)?

I assume it's a blacklisting, which means the server your account is on has had a spam issue, or just a misunderstanding.

If the bounces show a certain blacklist, such as "blocked by SpamCop," your host should be able to remove that, if they feel they should. In this case it is a definite should.

Or of course, you can just move over to Surpass..

Currently, AOL is not accepting mail from any website on Pass30, and I assume numerous other shared webhosting accounts including but not limited to Surpass. It is common. AOL has not been willing to remove the IP address from their blacklist.

To resolve:

1) We have instructed our users to use the SMTP server provided by their ISP (not always an option)

2) We have setup an SMTP server at our offices to route some of our clients through

3) We have obtained a dedicated server from Surpass

This is just the way it is. Good luck.

The IP of the mailserver can also be changed as a quick fix for any blacklisting.

With AOL, there's unfortunately more to it than that usually... as ecsuser explained.
