2 ?'s...Backup Servers and VPS
Hello,
Do you have backup servers for your reseller accounts? That is to say, does NS1 and NS2 point at two different servers? Do you offer VPS? I read about it in a different thread some where on the forum but haven't seen any updates on the subject. Thanks, Digital Gypsy Last edited by DigitalGypsy; October 28th, 2005 at 10:23 PM.. |

We use nameservers on the same server. They never fail.
In the past we used two different nameservers, and there were problems with that type of setup, despite what most would think. Kind of defeats the whole purpose. ![]() So basically- as long as the server is up, your sites are up, and nothing fails. We will offer VPS soon, but right now we just have dedicated servers found on the "dedicated" section of our site. There's quite a few tables of them that you can show/clear. VPS are slated to begin in a month or so. |

Thank you for the information.
I have a follow up question. What happens if the server fails? What sort of policy do you have in regards to getting my site and my customer's sites back online? Must our sites stay offline until you trouble shoot the server and make repairs? Perhaps you maintain backups and hot swap servers if one fails and then trouble shoot the failed server? I know servers hardly fail, but it happens. My feeling is that anyone can host a site on a server. It's what they do when the unexpected happens that makes them great at it. Thanks, Digital Gypsy |

Servers do have problems, but those problems do not always result in restores.
It is faster to fix the issue rather than just swap a drive and configure new settings. A restore is a last resort. We do have to do restores sometimes, but it is rare and the problem would have to be very serious (such as unrecoverable hard drive errors). Everything possible is done to prevent a restore, which would result in downtime until your account was unpackaged. We maintain a normal backup drive and backups are done on a weekly basis. These backups are done mainly if there has been customer error and they request a file they have accidentally deleted, etc. That is the main purpose and usually only purpose of them. If site uptime, backup drives, and multiple nameservers are very important to your business, we recommend getting your own dedicated server. With your own account on one server and complete control, there are no worries if a "neighbor" creates an issue, whether the issue is high server load, mail problems, etc. Not to mention if your server actually needed a restore, it would take far less than an hour. |

Reflecting back on your first question.. if you are really interested in VPS, I think we can go ahead and get it set up for you.
Though the plans are not on the site yet, we have been offering them to clients through our helpdesk. |

If my reseller account and all of my customers domains are currently WHM/Cpanel based (not at Surpass), how can I port them over without a lot of work? Can I give you the Cpanel backups and you install them? Or is there a better way?
Thanks, Digital Gypsy |
