Smile [Answered] newbie question: what does reseller mean?

OK, don't shoot me for a dumb question. In looking at the plans from the low end to the high $, I'm not sure what is meant by reseller plan, nor could I find any answer on the site. Can anyone give me a simple answer? THANK YOU!

Reseller means you can host lots of domains instead of just one. You don't even have to resell the space, you could just use it for your own sites if you have more than one domain. And the really cool thing is, with a reseller account Surpass gives you another additional account for nothing just for your own space.

If you don't know what a reseller account is, I would recommend not getting one, because they are more complicated to maintain, particularly if you only run one or two sites. Basically, it does have two purposes. If you want to start your own "hosting company" and sell smaller plans to other people; or if you have multiple websites that you want to organize and assign each its own cPanel access. It does have it's purposes, I use own for the organizational purposes after I expanded beyond three domain names... Just as a correction to valmg's explanation, you can host more then one domain on a shared account. You could really host as many as you want, as long as you have enough addon domain slots avaliable, but they are all controlled through one cPanel.

thanks, that helps! I do have a need to host 2 or 3 domains, so not sure what would be best but I think for now I'll probably go with the non-reseller type account.

If the need arises, you can always upgrade later at no charge.

Don't let them scare you, lol. Not knowing what a reseller is does not mean that you should not get one. The servers are all managed and cPanel has extensive documentation. If you have 3 domains, it's worth the price to go for a reseller account. For just a few dollars more a month, you get more space, more room to set configuration options for your sites, and more control. Yes, there is a learning curve but cPanel is great and is very easy to learn once you get the hang of it. In addition to that, there are lots of great people online to help you along the way if you get stuck and can't find out how to do something in the cPanel docs.
