User installed s/w?
I know that each account comes with Fantastico for installing popular website software. But, it may be the case that I would rather install the LAG software for a package. A case in point might be Wordpress 2.0 or Coppermine 1.4.3 and/or my own customizations of the code of those packages. Is there anything preventing me from uploading the install packages for these types of apps and installing them myself (given that I have the expertise to do just that - I do)?

No, nothing at all. You can run whatever software you want provided that it doesn't interfer with the TOS/AUP or cause any problems on the server. I myself prefer doing script installs manually.

Great! Thanks for the quick reply, David. Fantastico is fine but I don't like being at their mercy when it comes to having to wait for them to support the latest version of something.

Thanks for all the replies people. I've had various hosting accounts since 1995 and have never ever used Fantastico and wanted to make sure that I wasn't locked in for the apps that it manages. Apparently, I'm not! :-) phew...
